The all-time largest construction project of HUS

The Siltasairaala Hospital which will be built in the Meilahti hospital area, will replace Töölö Hospital and parts of the Comprehensive Cancer Center. After the completion of the massive construction project, the Meilahti hospitals will form a complex of Tornisairaala, Kolmiosairaala and Siltasairaala hospitals, with unified facilities and functions.

A very narrow construction site right next to a functioning hospital and a strict construction schedule pose challenge for the Siltasairaala hospital’s construction site. The building is scheduled for completion by 2022 and commissioning is scheduled for 2023.

Building services has a significant role in Siltasairaala Hospital: the design and work of building services is supervised by a seven-person team at SRV, who is the main contractor.

Bravida Finland is responsible for the ventilation of the ST section of the Siltasairaala Hospital and the HVAC contract for the SY-section. Siltasairaala hospital is Bravida’s largest single ventilation contract for a hospital and at the same time it is one of Bravida’s largest contracts in Finland. Bravida Finland ended up choosing ETS NORD’s products.

ETS NORD supplied the Siltasairaala hospital with:

• NORDduct ventilation ducts and parts
• Normal and regulating dampers
• Smoke dampers and motorized dampers for ventilation ducts
• Roof transitions
• Exhaust diffusers and air exhaust and intake device
• Silencers

ETS NORD is a familiar and reliable operator whose products meet the hygiene standard P1, says Project Manager Timo Kivekäs from Bravida Finland.

However, the most important factor for choosing ETS NORD products was their flexibility. Due to the congestion at the Siltasairaala hospital site, goods deliveries must be extremely precisely timed, and the pace is completely determined by the customer. The delivery reliability and quick responses of ETS NORD have been proofed already in earlier projects.

The Bravida contract started in August 2019 and the deliveries have gone smoothly.

– I also value ETS NORD’s handy webshop that can be used for getting the deliveries fast to the site, adds Kivekäs.
